PROPERTY DESCRIPTION:
Hawk has an option over 19 mining claims in Cortez Township and Gladwin Township, Ontario in the Elliot Lake area of Northern Ontario. These 19 mining claims cover a total of 293 claim units (approximately 11,720 acres) and are located within favourable uranium-bearing geological belts.
(News Release 08-0-25) Hawk announced, that on August 21st, 2008, the Company made the next installment payment required to maintain its option on the Cortez Property. Results of the ground Magnetic and ground Radiometric surveys were assessed and it was determined to pursue a continued interest in the property.
In accordance with the terms of the option agreement, which had been extended for 30 days (see NR 08-07-25) between Hawk, Mr. Perry English and Rubicon Minerals Corp., The claims are in good standing until April 24, 2010. If no further work is done, they will lapse.
PROPERTY GEOLOGY:
The Geology of the entire area is underlain by Early PreCambrian metasediments, metavolcanics, intrusive gneiss of Granodiorite and Quartz Diorite composition, ultrabasics, hybrid gneiss, migmatites, pegmatites and later granite intrusive and diabase dykes. Locally the area exhibits all stages of assimilation and hybridization of the various rock types, with intense brecciation and injection of volatiles from the later granite intrusive.
Elevated radioactivity was found in migmatites, pegmatites, massive granite in close proximity to the diabase intrusive and also in the brecciated contact areas.
The regional foliation of the area is to the northwest, but locally the trends vary from north to northeast. The folding is largely controlled by the granitic intrusive. The area is extensively faulted, with long and well-defined northwest regional lineaments and minor subsidiary northeast lineaments. To the north of the property a major east –west structural break has been picked out from radar-sat imagery
PREVIOUS WORK COMPLETED:
An airborne radiometric survey by the Geological Survey of Canada was completed over the area in 2002, but line spacing over the Cortez Property was 5 km. A prominent radiometric anomaly from the more detailed northern part of the survey area has been projected onto the Cortez Property.
In 2007, a 625 line kilometer helicopter-borne radiometric, magnetic and VLF-EM geophysical survey was conducted over the optioned Cortez Township in the Elliot Lake area of Northern Ontario. The lines were flown at 100 meter spacings. Final interpretation and results have identified a number of targets that warrant follow-up ground surveys and drilling.
In 2008 a 60km line cutting contract was awarded to Services Exploration of Quebec, which was followed by ground spectrometer, and magnetic surveys. Interpretation of the geophysical surveys are pending.
(NR 08-07-02) Hawk announced it had commenced field exploration consisting of line cutting, field mapping, ground Magnetic and ground Radiometric Surveys over a number of airborne radiometric anomalies identified from its November 2007 airborne radiometrics, magnetic and VLF-EM survey by Geophysics GPR International Inc., of Longueuil, Quebec .
2008 - Summary
Field exploration consisting of line cutting, field mapping, ground magnetic & radiometric survey was completed
2009 - Summary
No further work was completed on the property
